CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - An inmate died after experiencing medical problems in a South Carolina jail.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office told local media outlets the victim was 31-year-old Brianna Beland of North Charleston.
Beland was found unresponsive in her cell at the Charleston County jail around 11 p.m. Friday. She was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina Hospital where she died early Saturday.
An autopsy is planned to determine how Beland died.
The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating.
She was placed in the jail Aug. 14 on a shoplifting charge.
