CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - The state Corrections Department says construction for the new women’s prison in New Hampshire will be “substantially complete” by November.
The department says upon completion, the new facility will address the programming, treatment, and rehabilitation needs of the women under state custody. An opening date still hasn’t been announced.
The department said Friday it has published a request for proposal to contract with a private company to assist in marketing and advertising for security positions.
The 101,000-square-foot facility in Concord was set to open this year and is triple the size of the prison in Goffstown that currently houses nearly 140 prisoners. The new facility has room for 224 women and will provide much-needed classroom space and health care facilities.
But it’s been difficult to find the 74 guards, nurses, teachers and other staffers.
