PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island man who opened fire on a vehicle with a family inside during a road rage incident has been sentenced to serve 10 years behind bars.
A judge called 22-year-old a Xavier Spooner a miscreant and a hooligan in sentencing him this week to 20 years, with 10 to serve and 10 suspended with probation for the July 2016 shooting.
Spooner, a gang member, pleaded guilty to felony assault, conspiracy and firearms charges.
Prosecutors say he was helping a friend move from Central Falls to Pawtucket and in a rental truck when the family’s car ran a stop sign. Spooner and three other men opened fire, striking the car. The men abandoned the truck but were tracked down.
The other men have already pleaded guilty.
