HOOVER, Ala. (AP) - A Dothan woman took home the crown for the Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Pageant.

Sarah “Sally” Scott, 83, was chosen from a field of 10 finalists from throughout the state, the Dothan Eagle reported. She was crowned by Miss Alabama 2017 Jessica Proctor, who co-hosted the event in Hoover on Monday.

“It is absolutely the most wonderful privilege I could ever have had, representing the nursing homes of Alabama, which are wonderful places to go when you need them,” she said.

Scott will serve as an official spokeswoman for nursing home resident and the Alabama Nursing Home Association.

During her crowing, Scott expressed her surprise. She told the audience about how much she is looking forward to traveling the state to meet people during her reign and working to help people understand the benefits of living in long-term care facilities.

Scott shares a room with her husband Randall at the Westside Terrace Healthcare. She has three children, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

“We are so proud of Mrs. Scott and glad to have her representing Westside and all of the state’s long-term care facilities,” Westside administrator Kristie Hughes said in a written release. “As a former caregiver herself, she knows how invaluable it is for seniors to have support when they need it.”
