FARMINGTON, Conn. (AP) - Police in Connecticut say a former therapist has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman who was his patient.

Daniel Affrunti, of Farmington, turned himself in Wednesday on a warrant charging him with 12 counts of second-degree sex assault.

Police say the victim was 19 when she told detectives in 2015 that she had been sexually assaulted in Affrunti’s office. They say Affrunti’s license lapsed during the investigation and the victim declined to press charges.

Police say the victim told officers in June that she had been involved in a sexual relationship with the 67-year-old man last year, after the original investigation was closed.

It couldn’t be determined Wednesday if Affrunti has an attorney who can comment on the allegations.
