BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man accused of severely beating a man with a piece of wood has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder.
Forty-eight-year-old Alfred Craven appeared in court in Bennington on Monday. The Bennington Banner reports he is currently in federal custody on charges of robbing a bank in Massachusetts.
Craven’s attorney asked for a weight of evidence hearing on the first-degree attempted murder charge.
Prosecutors say Craven assaulted a Searsburg man with a 2-by-4 board before fleeing. The man suffered multiple skull and facial fractures, and was later placed into a medically induced coma for treatment.
Craven also pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault.
