BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont man has been sentenced to at least two years in prison after pleading no contest to a lewdness charge involving a child.
The Bennington Banner reports 61-year-old Warren Lake was arrested in 2016 on several sexual assault charges after a woman told authorities he molested her as a child. Under a plea agreement with prosecutors, the state dismissed most of the charges and Lake was sentenced Monday.
Deputy State’s Attorney Alexander Burke said the resolution was a compromise, saying it was important for the state to not put the victim through the pressures of trial. Burke said the victim, now 19, supported the resolution.
Lake’s lawyer said his client was amenable to treatment.
