HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut police sergeant has been arrested on charges that he illegally used a police vehicle while on leave.
Hartford police say Sgt. Justin Torniero was arrested Monday. Investigators say he repeatedly took a police car, filled it with gas and drove it without permission. They also say he tampered with devices in the car, including an automatic vehicle locator.
Torniero was released after his arrest and is due back in court Dec. 21.
Officials say he has been suspended without pay. He is a 10-year veteran of the force assigned to the patrol division.
It’s unclear if Torniero has a lawyer who can comment on the charges on his behalf.
