CAPE CORAL, Fla. (AP) - A fire near a fire station in Florida has left one man dead.

The News-Press reports Cape Coral Fire Department public information officer Andrea Schuh says the Tuesday morning fire occurred at a home behind fire station 10. Schuh says firefighters heard two explosions, and put the fire out quickly.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The victim’s name has not been released. Schuh said the man was well-known to neighbors and the firefighters and was in poor health and on oxygen.

Battalion Chief James Parker said the death “hits particularly close to home.”

Schuh says the fire department is asking neighbors to keep an eye out for a black lab that lived at the home, as well as a tabby cat which the man often cared for.
