SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - San Bernardino police have seized tens of thousands of marijuana plants in raids at several locations, including a building near police headquarters.

Nine people also were arrested Wednesday morning in the raids at three San Bernardino locations and a home in the pricey Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The San Bernardino Sun reports that the investigation began in July when police noticed the electric bill at the building near police HQ was about $67,000 and that the owner had paid cash for the building.

That owner, Stephanie Smith of Pacific Palisades, also owned a local home and a commercial building.

She and eight men were arrested on suspicion of illegally cultivating marijuana. It wasn’t clear whether she had a lawyer.
