SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Firefighters in Salt Lake City helped rescue two men whose truck slid off an icy highway and into a pond along Interstate 15 south of downtown.

Fire officials say it was one of several vehicle accidents they responded to during the Wednesday evening commute along the I-15 southbound freeway between downtown and 1300 South.

Firefighters trained in swift water rescue techniques helped pull the two adult males from the retention pond near I-15 and Warm Springs Road.

Salt Lake City Fire Department spokeswoman Audra Sorensen said both men suffered minor injuries but neither required hospitalization.

She’s warning motorists to beware of icy road conditions that are especially unpredictable during drastic temperatures shifts at night.
