BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials are conducting air quality tests on seven childcare programs that were found to be near current or former dry cleaners.

The Bennington Banner reported Wednesday the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation identified the programs that needed testing last month. The department says the testing is precautionary and there were no reported cases of illnesses. The programs are currently operating as usual.

Officials with the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union, which runs an Early Childhood Education program in Bennington, say their building housed a dry cleaner in the 1950s.

Early Childhood Education Director Kate Abbott says it’s unknown when the dry cleaner closed, but records describe it in operation as late as 1963. Abbott says the building has been tested before and past results were clean.
