SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Authorities say two people have been found dead after a lengthy standoff in Springfield.

Springfield police found the bodies Wednesday inside a recreational vehicle behind a house. They first went to the area after someone reported hearing a female being assaulted and possible gunshot.

After trying repeatedly to contact the people inside the recreational vehicle, officers found the bodies. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.

In a statement released Thursday, police identified the dead were 58-year-old Cynthia Rudolph and 62-year-old Phillip Rice, both of Springfield.

Police say the deaths appear to be a murder-suicide but the investigation is not complete. Investigators don’t believe a suspect is at large or that the public is in danger.
