WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (AP) - The father of a man accused of threatening Rhode Island police officers with a chain saw says authorities have the story wrong, but urged his son to turn himself in anyway.

Tom Matteson says his son, 38-year-old James Matteson, had been working with the chain saw in a garage Tuesday night when he came out to see his father being dragged away by police. The elder Matteson and another man were being arrested following a dispute.

West Greenwich Police Chief Richard Ramsey says the younger Matteson was revving the chain saw and yelling at officers before he dropped it and ran into the woods.

Ramsay says that James Matteson will be charged with felony assault on uniformed police officers when he is found.
