CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - The charge against an Oregon man accused of beating another man inside a nail salon has been upped to murder following the victim’s death.

The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports that 49-year-old Than Duy Kim pleaded not guilty to the amended charge on Wednesday.

Kim is accused of beating Mitch Xuan Dong with a baseball bat and knives inside the salon on Dec. 5.

Dong died on Tuesday.

Kim was arrested at his home five hours after the attack happened. He was bailed out of jail by family, but authorities say he was taken back into custody after missing a court hearing.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Ryan Joslin says Kim was in the hospital following a suicide attempt at the time of his missed hearing.
