OLD FORGE, N.Y. (AP) - State officials say enough snow has accumulated to open some Adirondack snowmobile trails.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says most gates and designated snowmobile trails in the western and central Adirondacks will be open by the weekend. That includes the Moose River Plains and the Seventh Lake Mountain snowmobile trail and Lake Pleasant.

Other trail systems are being checked for issues or require additional snowfall before opening.

Officials urge snowmobilers to check on local trail conditions before heading out.

Adirondack snow depths by Wednesday ranged from 2 to 18 inches, with the most accumulations in the western and central parts of the park. More snow is expected over the next several days.
