A NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll Sunday showed a major lead for Democrats in a congressional ballot test.

Fifty percent of registered voters would prefer Democrats to control Congress, while 39 percent would prefer Republicans, giving Democrats an 11-point lead. This is the biggest advantage for Democrats in nearly 10 years, since just two months before former President Barack Obama was elected in 2008.

Particularly concerning for Republicans is independents, who say they favor Democrats in control of Congress by 12 points.

An October survey found Democrats with only a 7-point overall lead on the congressional ballot test, with Democrats at 48 percent and Republicans at 41 percent.
