CAMPTI, La. (AP) - Louisiana State Police say a 15-year-old girl died and her mother was seriously injured when the girl lost control of a pickup truck and crashed into a road sign and a concrete retaining wall.

Master Trooper Daniel “Scott” Moreau says Kristyn Hoffpauir (HOFF-pow-er) and her mother, 37-year-old Kandace Hoffpauir, were heading north on U.S. Highway 71 near Campti (KAMP-tie) when the accident occurred about 9:10 p.m. Monday.

He says the truck ended upright in a creek after hitting the creek’s concrete retaining wall.

Moreau says Kristyn Hoffpauir died at the scene and her mother was taken to Rapides Regional Trauma Center.

They’re from Atlanta, Louisiana, a village about 40 miles (62 kilometers) north-northwest of Alexandria. Campti is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) west-northwest of Atlanta.

Cause of the accident is under investigation.
