LAKEWOOD, N.J. (AP) - There has been yet another fatal accident in a New Jersey community where stepped-up traffic safety enforcement was announced a few weeks ago.

NJ.com reports that a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle at about 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Day in Lakewood.

Police in the Ocean County community didn’t immediately identify the victim. Lt. Gregory Staffordsmith said police were still investigating and further information would be released when available.

Earlier this month, the county prosecutor said officers would be deployed at various intersections to strictly enforce motor vehicle laws in order following 13 fatal accidents and numerous serious accidents during the year.
