WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) - A fast-moving fire in a Pennsylvania high-rise apartment building has left two people dead.

The Luzerne County Coroner said Wednesday that 55-year-old Gloria Nieves and 62-year-old Luann Gilroy died of smoke inhalation in the blaze in Wilkes-Barre (WILKS’-ba-ree) a day earlier.

Police say 160 people were forced to evacuate the 11-story Lincoln Apartments.

Flames and smoke could be seen shooting from an apartment on the fifth floor just before noon Tuesday.

Residents remained out of the building Wednesday to allow for cleanup work and for inspectors to ensure the fire alarm system still works.

A state police fire marshal says the fire is not considered suspicious but has not said what caused it.
