SAFFORD, Ariz. (AP) - A state prison inmate who escaped from a work crew near Safford prison’s sewage pond is back in custody.

The Department of Corrections says a chase team found Juan Nunley hiding in an irrigation ditch in a vacant lot next to a storage facility in Safford on Thursday.

Nunley walked away from the crew Wednesday while serving a seven-year sentence at the minimum-security prison on Pima County convictions for theft and attempting to traffic in in stolen property.
