ROANOKE, Va. (AP) - Police say a Roanoke man has died after being shot.

The Roanoke Times reports that Daniel Liptak was found near dawn Thursday in a front yard. He had been shot in the lower body. He was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly afterward.

Witnesses who heard gunshots tell police they saw two males running from the house.

There have been no arrests.

The newspaper reports that Roanoke police are investigating 16 homicides so far this year, the highest amount in over a decade. Four shooting fatalities have occurred in the last two weeks.
