OLD FORGE, Pa. (AP) - A prosecutor must now decide whether police were justified in shooting and killing an armed bank robbery suspect following a chase in Pennsylvania.
State police said the M&T Bank in the Midway Shopping Center in Wyoming was robbed shortly before 1:30 p.m. Thursday and the suspect led police on a chase through Pittston into Old Forge, where he was killed.
The Lackawanna County coroner said after an autopsy that 40-year-old John Souder died from two gunshot wounds to the head. District Attorney Shane Scanlon will decide whether officers were justified in using deadly force.
Authorities say some state troopers and municipal police officers have been placed on administrative leave while the investigation proceeds, but they haven’t said how many, which agencies were involved or how many shots were fired.
