TUXEDO, N.Y. (AP) - One person is dead and several others injured in a crash involving a commuter bus and a car in the lower Hudson Valley.

Officials say the accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. Friday on Route 17 in Tuxedo, about 40 miles north of New York City.

Tuxedo Police Lt. John Norton tells the Middletown Times Herald-Record that the driver of the car lost control on ice, skidded into the southbound lanes, and was slammed broadside by a Short Line bus.

Norton says the driver of the car was killed and about a half-dozen bus passengers suffered minor injuries. They were taken to hospitals to be treated, while the rest of the passengers were taken to a school to escape the cold.

The driver of the car has not been identified.
