PALATKA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say two people were killed and six people were injured in a head-on crash in north Florida.

The Florida Highway Patrol tells local media outlets that 35-year-old Barbara Armstrong and her passenger, 49-year-old Ronnie Cochran, were traveling north on U.S. 17 in Putnam County Thursday evening when their car crossed the center line and hit an oncoming SUV. Armstrong and Cochran both died.

FHP says the woman driving the SUV and a 2-year-old boy were hospitalized with serious injuries. Four other passengers in the SUV, ranging in age from 12 to 18, sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
