WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - The case against a former Rhode Island man accused of beating another man to death in West Greenwich and assaulting responding police officers will head to trial.

The Westerly Sun reports (https://bit.ly/2kaExlW ) that a Warwick judge last month approved a motion sending the case against 35-year-old Christian Lepore, formerly of Richmond, to full trial before a jury. The trial date hasn’t been determined.

Lepore has pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges.

Police say Lepore was naked when he walked onto John O’Neil’s property apparently at random and beat the 62-year-old O’Neil to death in May. Authorities say the attack was caught on a 911 call recording as O’Neil reported a man threatening him and acting strangely.

Lepore’s lawyer has said Lepore was insane at the time.
