VASSALBORO, Maine (AP) - Maine state police say officers shot and killed a man and injured a woman during an incident involving a stolen vehicle in Vassalboro.

Police spokesman Steve McCausland says police encountered the stolen vehicle Friday in the late afternoon. He says shots were fired and the man, who was driving, was killed. The woman was transferred to a hospital in the area.

McCausland says no police were injured in the incident. He says police are not identifying the two people at this time.

Further details were not yet available.

The Maine attorney general’s office will investigate the shooting, which is standard procedure in any shooting involving an officer.

Vassalboro is a town of about 4,000 people outside of Augusta, the state capital.
