COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - Hockey players from around the Northeast are participating in the Pond Hockey Classic on Lake Champlain this weekend.
The three-day tournament kicked off Friday on Mallets Bay in Colchester.
The Burlington Free Press reports (https://bfpne.ws/2kcXtW7 ) that the event drew about 900 adult participants on 125 teams wearing custom jerseys with names like “Swamp Donkeys” and “Grim Creepers.”
The games continue on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4:35 p.m. with championship games on Sunday.
The winning teams get their names engraved on a trophy that resembles a beer keg.
Nate Roy came from the Boston area with a team for the fourth year in a row. He says this tournament has a certain appeal to it and that Burlington is a great city.
