VASSALBORO, Maine (AP) - Police officers shot and killed a man and injured a woman after the pickup truck they were in rammed a Maine State Police cruiser, authorities said Saturday.

Authorities said 25-year-old Kadhar Bailey of Gardiner was killed and 18-year-old Ambroshia Fagre of Oakland was critically injured and taken to Maine Medical Center after the Friday confrontation in Vassalboro.

The attorney general’s office was investigating the use of deadly force by state police Lt. Scott Ireland, Trooper Jeff Parks and Vassalboro Police Chief Mark Brown. Authorities hadn’t determined yet which shots caused Bailey’s death and Fagre’s injuries.

Police spokesman Steve McCausland said police were not injured; they were placed on administrative leave with pay as is standard procedure.

McCausland said police were called Friday afternoon regarding a vehicle involved with some burglaries. He said shots were fired after a truck they encountered “intentionally” rammed the police cruiser. Bailey was driving, authorities said.

The confrontation occurred on Arnold Road, which is near a golf course and pond in the Kennebec County town.

Vassalboro is a neighboring town to Augusta.
