BANGOR, Maine (AP) - Head to the grocery store to buy things you’ll never need - the economy may depend on it.

Such is the advice of the Bangor Police Department, who took to Facebook on Sunday to offer its own take on the typical snowstorm advice that officials offer on TV, radio, newspapers and social media.

The department advises people to check with their bosses before staying in and taking the day off.

Though, police note, that advice doesn’t apply to firefighters, public works employees, health care workers and others.

Those who go out should bring a blanket, water, working flashlight, small shovel, charged cell phone, snacks and mittens - not gloves.

Police also are asking people to check in on “shut-ins,” seniors and neighbors.

But take that ski-mask off first, they advise.
