COLUMBIANA, Ala. (AP) - A man has admitted to killing a Shelby County man and dumping his body in the woods more than three years ago.

Al.com (https://bit.ly/2kiG1Qe ) reports that 27-year-old Jessy Hoyt pleaded guilty Thursday to murder in connection to the slaying of 46-year-old James Sherwood, who was found dead in November 2013 in a wooded area off a Hoover road. Police said Sherwood had been shot and killed at a home in Calera.

Hoyt was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He was given credit for the three years and 75 days he has served in jail since his arrest.

Two other men had already pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution in the case. It is unclear what led to the slaying.
