WASCO, Calif. (AP) - Kern County sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a 1½-year-old boy in Wasco.

The Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded Tuesday to a report of a child not breathing and found the boy unresponsive in a home where the boy’s mother, a man and two other children were present.

Deputies and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but the boy was pronounced dead.

Detectives were summoned and the two other children, a 7-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, were taken into protective custody.

An autopsy will determine why the boy died.
