CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) - A Florida trucker who was caught with 130 pounds of marijuana in Chesterfield County has been sentenced to three years in prison for trafficking drugs into Virginia.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/2kTS3OK) that an officer pulled over 55-year-old Collin Ashley of Coconut Creek, Florida, on Aug. 7 for speeding.

Prosecutor Kenneth Nickels says a canine officer alerted to the presence of drugs in the truck’s cab, and officers found a box of marijuana inside. More marijuana was found in a duffel bag Ashley threw from the cab while driving.

Altogether, officers recovered 130 pounds of marijuana.

In a plea agreement, Ashley pleaded guilty Feb. 6 to one count of transporting more than five pounds of marijuana and was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 17 years suspended.
