ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - Two New Jersey men have been indicted in the shooting of an Atlantic City police officer in a casino parking garage last year.

Martell Chisholm and Demetris Cross face charges that include attempted murder and robbery in connection with the September 2016 shooting.

Authorities say the 30-year-old Chisholm, 28-year-old Cross and 25-year-old Jerome Damon were attempting to rob three men near the Caesars Atlantic City parking garage when Officer Josh Vadell and his partner arrived.

Police say Vadell was shot in the head as he stepped out of the patrol car. His partner returned fire and struck Damon, who was declared dead.

Vadell was hospitalized and returned home in November.

Attorneys for Chisholm and Cross have said their clients didn’t have guns and didn’t know anyone else had them.
