St. Louis Blues goaltender Jake Allen has had a tough year with a .903 save percentage, but at least he still has a good head on his shoulders.

During Thursday night’s game against the Vancouver Canucks, Allen lost his helmet for a pretty decent amount of time. Normally, the referee blows the whistle immediately, as having 90 mile per hour chunks of frozen, vulcanized rubber fly at your head is generally not ideal.

But, for whatever reason, the refs didn’t stop play, and Allen was forced to make a save without a helmet. Take a look:

Fortunately, Allen escaped unharmed and immediately skated over to give the ref a piece of his mind.

Allen and his Blues would walk away with a 4-3 win, with Allen stopping 18 of the 21 shots he faced.
