ROME, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 39-year-old man has suffered a broken leg in a snowmobile accident in Rome.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s office says Brian White, of Verona, was hurt shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday as he was riding along the Erie Canal Trail System.

White skidded while trying to avoid hitting another snowmobile operator, 24-year-old Thomas Larsen, also of Verona, who’d stopped for approaching snowmobiles. White’s snowmobile struck Larsen’s vehicle and he was thrown from it. He was treated at the scene and then taken to a local hospital.

White was ticketed for infractions including operating an unregistered and uninsured snowmobile. Larsen also was ticketed for operating an uninsured snowmobile. Both are scheduled to appear in Rome City Court in March.
