FORT MADISON, Iowa (AP) - A Fort Madison city councilman has been charged with fraud related to his vehicle dealership.

The Fort Madison Daily Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/2ktZ0qk ) that 56-year-old Chris Greenwald owns and operates River City Motors in Fort Madison. The Iowa Division of Motor Vehicle Enforcement has accused him of trading a pickup truck in June 2016 even though there was an $11,500 security lien on the truck and he wasn’t the title holder.

Greenwald is charged with misdemeanor fraudulent practice. The crime occurs when a vehicle is purchased without properly filling out the title of the vehicle and then attempting to sell it to a third party.

Greenwald says the error somehow must have gotten past him.
