COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Advocates in South Carolina are imploring the state’s lawmakers to reject proposed legislation they say would dismantle the state’s weapons permitting system.
South Carolina members of Moms Demand Action are holding an advocacy day Wednesday at the Statehouse. They are opposed to new proposals that would allow concealed carry reciprocity with any other state in the country.
Universal reciprocity has been previously debated without success. Last year, state lawmakers passed a reciprocity agreement with Georgia, creating an exception to prior law barring state law enforcement from recognizing permits from states that don’t have at least the same requirements to carry a concealed gun as South Carolina.
Georgia doesn’t require training for its permit.
