FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a suspended Asbury Park police officer fraudulently claimed that his half-sister was his wife as part of an insurance fraud scheme to get coverage for her and her son.

Monmouth County prosecutors say 38-year-old Alix Antoine and his 44-year-old sister, Patricia Louis, both pleaded guilty Tuesday to insurance fraud.

Antoine and his sister have agreed to pay nearly $190,000 in restitution. Both are due to be sentenced June 9, but they plan to apply for entry into a pre-trial program that could possibly spare them prison terms.

Antoine served with the Asbury Park force for 12 years. Prosecutors say that from 2009 to 2013, the Neptune Township man falsely claimed that Louis was his wife, but an investigation revealed she was his biological half-sister.
