ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Some New York residents are outraged a freshman U.S. congressman is attending an expensive fundraiser instead of holding town hall meetings to hear their concerns.

Dozens of protesters lined the busy street outside Fort Orange Club in Albany where a dinner and reception for Republican Congressman John Faso was held Wednesday.

Demonstrators urged Faso with signs and chants to hold up the Affordable Healthcare Act and oppose President Trump’s proposed policies on immigration and environmental protection.

Healthcare advocates say Republicans’ proposed Medicaid cuts will mean millions of dollars in federal funding loses for hospitals and nursing homes in Faso’s district.

Peggy Kiwalski of Delmar says it was her first time attending a public protest because she is concerned Faso’s votes on clean air and Medicaid do not reflect his constituents.
