SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A 61-year-old Peabody man has been sentenced to serve between 10 and 11 years in prison for stabbing his girlfriend to death.
Brandon Hoar was sentenced Thursday by Salem Superior Court Judge Thomas Drechsler after being convicted earlier this month of voluntary manslaughter.
Hoar admitted stabbing 55-year-old Cheryl Young to death in 2015, but maintained he did it to protect her 5-year-old granddaughter.
Young was found stabbed multiple times in the couple’s living room while her granddaughter was in an upstairs room.
Hoar testified that Young had bipolar disorder and had threatened to kill the child. But the now-7-year-old granddaughter also testified saying Hoar was “making that up.”
