BILLERICA, Mass. (AP) - Police have apprehended a Revere man they say struck a Billerica police cruiser, injured an officer, and sparked an hour-long manhunt when he fled the scene.

Carlos Lomba was charged Thursday with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident with injury resulting.

Police say Billerica officers attempted to stop the 45-year-old Lomba’s vehicle near U.S. Route 3 north at about 3 a.m.

Deputy Chief Roy Frost says Lomba slammed into a cruiser at high speed and then fled on foot. The officer in the cruiser was taken to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington for treatment.

Lomba was apprehended about an hour after the crash occurred.

It could not immediately be determined if he has a lawyer.
