LOVELAND, Colo. (AP) - A Berthoud teenager accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend to death has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping.

The Loveland Reporter-Herald reports (https://goo.gl/CNCpOa ) 19-year-old Tanner Flores entered his plea Thursday, and his attorney filed a successful motion for an evaluation of his client’s mental health before the case proceeds.

Flores was arrested June 10 at his late grandfather’s property in Collbran, where he drove after allegedly shooting 18-year-old Ashley Doolittle multiple times in the head while she was riding in his pickup.

According to his arrest affidavit, Flores was found with Doolittle’s blanket-wrapped body in the cab of his pickup at the Collbran property.

It’s unclear how long the mental health hospital in Pueblo will take to complete its evaluation of Flores.
