HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) - A judge in Hagerstown says a state correctional officer charged with raping a 14-year-old girl can be released on $125,000 bond.
The jailed, 38-year-old defendant appeared via closed-circuit video at a bond review hearing Friday. Assistant Public Defender Joshua Streett told the court his client has no criminal record. Streett declined to comment afterward.
Court records say the man is related to the girl. The Associated Press is not naming him to avoid indirectly identifying her. The AP generally does not identify sexual assault victims.
State prison agency spokesman Gerard Shields tells The Herald-Mail that the 16-year employee has been suspended without pay.
The girl told police he raped her in his Williamsport home Saturday while she was there visiting him and a 17-year-old girl who also frequented the house.
