MOUNT TABOR, Vt. (AP) - A 52-year-old Vermont woman has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge in the December shooting death of her husband at their Mount Tabor home.

Peggy Shores entered the plea Thursday in Vermont Superior Court in Rutland.

Shores was charged after a police investigation into the Dec. 11, 2016, death of 54-year-old David Shores, Sr.

Police say the investigation revealed that David Shores was shot by another person and that Peggy Shores was the only other person in the house

Peggy Shores was arrested Wednesday in Manchester.

In court, defense Attorney Steven Howard argued the charges against his client were based on assumption, not fact. He says there’s nothing that ties Shores to the shooting. He called David Shores’ death an accident.
