MIAMI (AP) - A South Florida man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for a botched drug deal that led to a fatal shooting.
The Miami Herald (https://goo.gl/5Eiv47 ) reports that Marcelyn Mathieu was sentenced to 35 years in prison Thursday. He was convicted of murder in December.
Authorities say Mathieu had met with Evani Galvez in a Miami Gardens parking lot in July 2011. The drug deal fell apart, and Galvez drove away in his Jeep. Mathieu was the passenger in a car that chased Galvez for a short time. Witnesses say Mathieu leaned out the window and opened fire, fatally striking Galvez and causing the Jeep to crash.
Key evidence against Mathieu included footage from a red-light camera that captured the car chase.
