YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - A Yakima man who pleaded guilty to murdering his former girlfriend has been sentenced to 26 years in prison.

The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (https://goo.gl/iBfWBX ) Ricardo Mendoza received the sentence Friday as part of a plea agreement in the death of Marcelina Briones.

He pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in January and had faced a standard maximum sentence of nearly 29 years.



Mendoza attacked Briones with a baseball bat at her Yakima home in January 2016.
