NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Police arrested two men and seized 45 roosters at a Newark social club where they say cockfighting was taking place.

Officers say they entered El Cacique Social Club on Saturday night and observed a large crowd participating in a cockfight.

Authorities charged the business owner, 53-year-old Noralberto Orengo of Newark and business manager 53-year-old William Aviles of Newark with permitting the fighting of an animal and related counts. It’s not known if they have lawyers.

Five of the roosters died of injuries sustained in the ring.
