DONALDSONVILLE, La. (AP) - Authorities say a driver is in custody after crashing into a home, causing it to burst into flames in Donaldsonville.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/2lMtnrK) that Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Bobby Webre says a deputy had tried to stop the driver Sunday evening after recognizing the man as someone wanted on felony warrants.

However, Webre says the driver sped away and the deputy called off the pursuit following a brief chase.

Webre says the driver continued speeding and lost control of his vehicle, smashing into the residence, which caught fire. Webre expects the damage will be a total loss.

He says one man was home at the time of the crash but escaped unharmed.

Officials have not identified the driver or said what charges he is facing.
