GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - Cascade County commissioners have chosen former state Rep. Carlie Boland to serve the remainder of Democratic Sen. Mary Sheehy Moe’s term in the Legislature.

Moe resigned late last month to help care for her triplet grandchildren, who were born prematurely in December.

Boland tells the Great Falls Tribune (https://gftrib.com/2kpV2fL ) that she’ll begin working Monday, including filling Moe’s committee assignments on education, transportation and the judiciary.

Democratic Commissioner Jane Weber made the motion to choose Boland from among three people nominated by the county’s Democratic Central Committee. Weber said as a former lawmaker, Boland could step into the position during the session without needed any instruction.

Republican Commissioners Joe Briggs and Jim Larson also supported Boland to serve the remaining 22 months of Moe’s four-year term, citing her experience.
